Do Ceramic Coatings Need Protection?

Do Ceramic Coatings Need Protection?

Before the application of a ceramic coating, every vehicle must undergo a full paint correction. There are numerous reasons for this, and you should avoid any shop that offers a ceramic coating without a pre-emptive paint correction.

As Victoria’s premiere provider of ceramic coatings, we like our clients to be fully informed of what’s going on with their vehicles and why each step is necessary. That’s why we’d like to take this chance to communicate why it’s necessary to complete a paint correction before a ceramic coating.

It really comes down to two things: understanding what a ceramic coating does, and what it doesn’t do.

What Do Ceramic Coatings Do?

Ceramic coatings are often presented as magic solutions that miraculously heal paint and make your vehicle invincible. While generating this impression is a good marketing strategy for dishonest shops, it isn’t exactly the truth.

Nothing protects your paint from everyday wear and tear like a ceramic coating - not even close. Waxes and sealants simply don’t last, and PPF on its own doesn’t protect your paint from UV damage.

Ceramic coatings are a layer of protection that bonds with your paint. The layer is hydrophobic, UV protective, scratch resistance, and chemical resistant. Aesthetically, ceramic coatings don’t add anything to your paint – they merely protect and enhance what is already there. That is why it’s so crucial for the paint to be perfect before a ceramic coating is applied. If we applied a coating to flawed paint, the flaws would shine on through.

Seal in Perfection

Nothing protects your paint from everyday wear and tear like a ceramic coating – not even close. Waxes and sealants simply don’t last, and PPF on its own doesn’t protect your paint from UV damage.

Arguably, the best part of installing a ceramic coating is that you are sealing in flawless paint “once and for all”. Instead of getting your paint corrected as a part of routine maintenance, you get it done once and let the ceramic coating take care of the rest.

So it’s true that your vehicle needs to undergo paint correction before a ceramic coating – but it’s the last paint correction you’ll have to get for years!
