How to Handle a Brand New Car

How to Handle a Brand New Car

This actually happens more than you might imagine: A new client will drive up to our shop and ask us if their brand-new cars need any work. Since this is such a regular occurrence, we thought we would give it its own blog post.

As you would imagine, there is no single correct answer. With all the variables in play, we think it’s best to deal with each vehicle on an individual basis. No two vehicles are alike, so our service should never be scripted. That being said, here are some guidelines that will help you consider this interesting dilemma.

When purchasing a new vehicle, it is best to have the car delivered to your door directly from the factory. If that’s not an option, ask the dealer not to do any washing or detailing because you’d like to do the work yourself or by a professional detailer.

Condition

It is natural to assume that brand new cars arrive in perfect, immaculate condition. However, that’s not exactly true. Most of the time, cars that come from the factory arrive with noticeable amounts of buffer holograms, swirling, and even sanding marks. In addition to this, sometimes bits of dust and other particles can find themselves stuck to the paint during transport.

Beware of cars that have received “dealer prep”, as they are often in surprisingly poor shape. Dealerships don’t typically employ detailing experts to do the work, and therefore the “prep” process can leave much to be desired. If we are dealing with a dealer prepped vehicle, we diligently check for significant swirling, buffer holograms, and wax that has become stuck in joints and crevices.

Customer Expectations

One quality of customer service that we pride ourselves on most at CJ’s Autobling is absolute transparency and communication with our clients. When you bring in your vehicle, we will draw your attention to everything we notice and let you decide which problems need to be fixed and in what order.

We find that this process guarantees that our clients get exactly what they want, not leaving anything to be desired, and not paying for anything they don’t need. Our passion is always there, and we’re happy to make suggestions about what should be taken care of, but our ultimate goal os for the vehicle owner to feel empowered and in control.

Vehicle Specific Requirements

A major factor in deciding what services are required is the type of vehicle and what the intended uses are. This seems like common sense, but it’s important for the client and the shop to be on the same page. A brand new Ferrari 458 has different requirements and will face different conditions than a broken-in Ford F-150.

For example, if the goal is to bring new life to an old car on a budget, then we might suggest vinyl wrapping as a fantastic way to do a colour swap on a vehicle and try out a new look. If you are looking for the ultimate in paint protection and vehicle aesthetics for your brand new rig, we would suggest you check out our line of Feynlab Ceramic Coatings.

Whatever your new car is, it’s worth stopping by (even if it’s for no other reason that to show off!). We can take a look for you, and give you an honest opinion about the condition of your brand new car. And if you’re reading this after purchasing that beauty you’ve had your eye on for a while, then congratulations from all of us at CJ’s.
