Can You Put a Ceramic Coating on a Wrap?

Vinyl wraps are gaining popularity in both commercial and private markets. The branding possibilities of a vinyl wrap are endless, and people are seeing wraps as a way to protect their vehicle’s paint jobs while adding an amazing custom aesthetic. Many people like vinyl wraps because they can be removed and replaced whenever you want a new look, but more and more drivers are intending on using their wraps for a semi-permanent finish.

Vinyl wraps are one of our most popular services and one that we love doing the most. Read more about them here.

The answer to getting ultimate longevity and usability from your vinyl wrap is to pair it with a ceramic coating. Ceramic coatings are the pinnacle of vehicle protection, but many people aren’t aware that they can be used on vinyl wraps as well as glossy paint.

Combining the strengths of vinyl wraps and ceramic coatings is a true powerhouse of vehicle customization

Combining the strengths of vinyl wraps and ceramic coatings is a true powerhouse of vehicle customization – but it must be done properly, or you won’t be happy with the results. Here’s how to make sure you get a successful finish.

Proper Preparation

You can’t just slap a ceramic coating onto a vinyl wrap and expect perfection. In order to accept the ceramic coating, the vinyl must be properly prepared. This is a 3-step process. First, we go over the wrap to make sure there aren’t any defects; ceramic coatings “lock-in” what’s underneath, so we want to make sure we are dealing with perfection. Second, we will give the vinyl a serious clean and a light polish. Finally, we use a specific degreaser to remove any traces of grease, oil, or polish residue.

Choose the Right Product

This one is critical – a coating developed for use on a glossy smooth clear coat will not perform adequately on the porous surface of a vinyl wrap. Not only will the incorrect coating underperform, but it could ruin the look of your wrap. Choosing a proper coating, like this one, will ensure that you get the properties you desire and also maintain the finish of your vinyl wrap. That’s right, you CAN coat a matte wrap without changing the matte finish.
