The Worst Ceramic Coating Myths
We think that high-quality ceramic coatings from Feynlab are one of the best things you can do for your vehicle. Unfortunately, with the recent viral popularity of ceramic coatings, we have noticed a lot of false information spreading around. We thought we’d straighten out a few of the most pervasive myths, so you can get informed about this important topic.
Myth 1: Ceramic Coatings Are 100% Scratch Proof
Many detailers and suppliers of ceramic coatings that you will talk to may embellish the scratch resistance of ceramic coatings. Some salespeople will even go as far as to call them “100% scratch-proof and resistant to rock chips”. These claims are false.
The truth is that ceramic coatings will be effective at protecting your paint against small scratches and minor incidents that would otherwise damage your paint. Things like driving through brush, small bumps from bikes, or kids playing.
Ceramic coatings are incredibly thin, and therefore can’t absorb the impact of a rock hitting your car at highway speed or completely resist someone intentionally scratching your vehicle.

Life with a coated vehicle isn’t maintenance-free, but it is much simpler and easier. Additionally, ceramic coating eliminates the need for waxing every few weeks, which will save you lots of time and money.
Myth 2: Ceramic Coatings Require Zero Maintenance
Another pervasive myth is that vehicles with a ceramic coating don’t ever need to be washed or otherwise maintained. The truth is that a coating will significantly reduce the amount of washing necessary, and make the washing that you do more effective and easier, but it won’t completely eliminate the need for washing altogether.
Life with a coated vehicle isn’t maintenance-free, but it is much simpler and easier. Additionally, ceramic coating eliminates the need for waxing every few weeks, which will save you lots of time and money.
Myth 3: Ceramic Coatings Are Permanent
This myth is tricky because it is partially true. Nano ceramic coatings form a semi-permanent bond with a vehicle’s surface and cure into a hard- armour-like shell. This means that a ceramic coating doesn’t need to be reapplied every few months.
High-quality ceramic coatings, that are properly applied, should last 1-5 years, depending on the product. Meaning that while it is a long-term automotive solution, it is definitely not permanent.
Myth 4: Ceramic Coatings Are Easy to Apply
This is another myth that needs some clarification.
Attaining a professional-quality finish to your vehicle is not as simple as it may seem. Before a nano-ceramic coating can be applied, the surface of the vehicle must be completely free of blemishes. Any blemishes, such as swirl marks, water spots, tiny scratches, or dings will reduce the coating’s ability to bond with the surface.
Before a coating can be successfully applied, the vehicle must at least be washed, clayed, buffed, and kept 100% pristine throughout the entire process. Sound like a headache? Don’t worry, this is what we deal with every day.
Myth 5: Ceramic Coatings Provide More Gloss Than Sealants and Waxes
Here’s a secret: ceramic coatings do add some gloss, but more than anything it preserves and enhances what is underneath. That means that the prep work done to a vehicle is as crucial as the coating itself. If coatings are applied to a faded or scratched car, the result will just be a faded paint job with a little bit of shine on top. The same principle applies to haze or swirl marks; they will be visible in the finished product unless removed first.
